Originally by: Jade Constantine No, and I don't intend to either. My reasoning is that it just seems somehow disloyal to the identity of eve online the player-driven economic sandbox (that was) to support an immersion-breaking company store that short-circuits player industry so obviously for rl cash.
Add to that my strong (personal) suspicion that artist salaries are going towards NeX content that should in my view be spent on hiring Eve spaceship artists (cyno, engine trails, missile launcher graphics, pos renewal etc.) Supporting Nex is (again in my personal view) simply encouraging CCP down the wrong path and I think the best thing for Eve Online's future health and success is that the NeX experiment dies unlamented and gets quietly removed from the game.
Any future content that is ear-marked for delivery by NeX just feels like its spoiling the game from my viewpoint. I would prefer all content to come via traditional means (bpos, bpcs, lp stores etc) and be available for players to buy with their in-game currency without breaking their suspension of disbelief and reminding them (too firmly) that Eve players are viewed as cash-cows by the money men.
I feel strongly that the hybrid model (subsciptions + microtransactions) is utterly wrong for Eve Online and I'd like to see the developers make a firm and principled choice between subscription and microtransactions.
Imagine for a moment if NeX didn't exist and they'd delivered these clothings and goggles and things in the form of bpos/invention product/lp - then we'd be happy to see the "nightstalker goggles" having in game effects and actually doing something that made them worth having.
Screw vanity for its own sake.
This is a spaceship game. Things should have an impact on the game.
While I don't agree with the notion that MT and subscriptions can not live in harmony, I "do" agree with you on the point that these vanity items need to be produced by players. BPC's to make them (and other items like the Ishukone Watch Scorpion) can be sold via the NeX store, but the production of these items needs to come from the player base. BPO's from the NeX store would be a possibility as well, but I realize that may be a bit more problematic from the marketing angle.
If the player base is to exert pressure, I would like to see it focused on asking CCP to put a priority on developing the tools necessary to do this. After all, they have already indicated that is the system they would like to ultimately see in place. Pressure to make it a priority doesn't deter from goals they already have in place, it simply changes the development priorities. This would meet a lot less resistance than asking them to scrap their plans altogether, and would be something the player base could get behind.
I feel that ignoring the NeX items altogether (if one has even a slight interest in pimping how their Avatar looks to begin with) out of principal will ensure that the only path CCP will take is to continue stubbornly on their current path until they ultimately scrap the project altogether... which would be a shame.
The concept has a LOT of potential for both FIS content as well as WIS content, I'd hate to see it abandoned because we couldn't find a way for it to work in a way agreeable for both the player base and CCP. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |
